Foundations and philanthrophy / Social and economic impact modelling
Your programmes are creating more value than you know. We help you find it, measure it, and use it.
Most organisations can show what their programmes do – people trained, hours volunteered, qualifications achieved. That's a solid foundation. But the real value runs much deeper: the difference it makes to communities lifted out of deprivation, how someone's career prospects and earnings improve over a lifetime, the wider contribution to jobs, growth, and public services. That story almost never gets told.
Our Social Impact Model changes that. Built by economists and data scientists, it translates what your programmes do into hard economic numbers that resonate with government, boards, and the public. They are rigorous and built to withstand scrutiny. Our analysis is anchored to the UK government's standard for evidence-based value for money assessment (HMT Green Book principles), which helps ensure our figures stand up to the most demanding audiences.
What we measure
The model works at three levels, building from the individual right up to the national picture:
- Individual: the long-term difference a programme makes to a person. We can help you quantify things like: What happens to your programme beneficiaries' career trajectory, financial resilience, and wellbeing? And how do their earnings change over a lifetime?
- Community: who is being reached and what is changing at a local level? We can quantify things like: How many people are being lifted out of deprivation? Which constituencies are benefiting and by how much?
- National: what is the programme worth to the UK economy? This includes modelling how your programmes support GDP, generate additional tax revenues, drive productivity gains, and address reductions in skill shortages.
Many programmes attract additional funding from government or other partners. We can model the full value of that too, showing what your initial investment helped unlock and why it would not have happened without you.
The value of big picture data
Our Social Impact Model changes that. Built by economists and data scientists, it translates what your programmes do into hard economic numbers that resonate with government, boards, and the public. They are rigorous and built to withstand scrutiny.
Once you have that evidence base, the opportunities are significant:
- Make your external reporting and communications land harder
- Make better investment decisions by modelling the future impact of your programmes before you commit
- Stand apart from peers doing similar work by telling a richer, more complete story about what you're really achieving
- Walk into government and stakeholder meetings with real economic firepower
- Build campaigns and advocacy content around numbers that actually move people
- Win more bids, where demonstrating contribution to the UK economy is increasingly expected
What it applies to
The model has been developed for skills, employability, and volunteering programmes, and can be directly applied to STEM and wider workforce development activity. But the methodology is flexible. We have applied it across a wide range of programme types and would love to talk about how it could work for whatever your programmes focus on.
